Sedation dentistry options available to help with dental anxiety
Nitrous, also known as Laughing Gas or Happy Gas
At Healthview Dental we are one of the few practices in Corio, Lara and Geelong to provide Laughing Gas. Laughing Gas provides relaxation while still leaving the patient in a conscious state of mind. This is a safe option for many people and especially for children’s dentistry. Nitrous gas is only in your system while you are attached to the machine, there is no residual effect once the you are no longer attached. You are able to go about the rest of their day as normal. The cost of laughing gas is approximately $90.00 per session.
IV sedation
IV sedation can be provided in the dental clinic setting by a trained specialist. IV sedation is sometimes known as twilight sedation. It is a deeper sedation compared to oral sedation. The cost will be determined by the IV sedation specialist who will coordinate this with the patient.
General anaesthetic
In cases where general anaesthetic is required, the patient is fully sedated by an anaesthetist in a hospital setting. The anaesthetist monitors the patient while dental treatment is completed. This is the deepest form of sedation available. The cost is determined by the anaethesist and the hospital, they will contact the patient directly with quotes if this option is taken.
